Our square-metre rates cover the whole deck: the sub-frame underneath, the boards on top, and the fitting. They are starting prices for a straightforward deck at or near ground level, and the questions below explain what moves a job up from there.

  • Timber decking Pressure treated softwood, frame included. 15 year guarantee on materials. from £180 per m²
  • Composite decking Low maintenance boards, frame included. 35 year guarantee on materials. from £210 per m²

Raised Decks

A deck up to about a metre off the ground is generally covered by the square-metre rate above. What changes the total is the balustrade: once a deck stands high enough to need guarding, the balustrade is priced per metre, as below.

Above a metre, we price each deck individually. The height itself matters less than the site logistics: how materials reach the garden, how steep the ground is and how the frame has to be built. Photos of the garden and the route to it let us give you a realistic figure.

Balustrades, per Linear Metre

Composite deck with glass balustrade — Oxspring

Priced per running metre of balustrade, fitted. Glass and stainless wire keep the view open, which is why they suit raised decks looking out over a garden or a valley. Timber is the lowest-cost way to guard a deck, and composite rails match composite boards.

  • Timber balustrade from £180 per metre
  • Composite balustrade from £300 per metre
  • Glass or stainless wire balustrade from £420 per metre

See the styles on our balustrade and lighting page.

Deck Lighting and Outdoor Power

Lights are easiest to add while the deck is being built, so it is worth deciding on them at quote stage.

  • Up to 10 LED deck lights Fitted into the deck and plugged in. £300
  • Hard-wired lighting Remote switching or dusk-to-dawn sensors, installed by our electrician. adds £240–£540
  • Outdoor socket Worth fitting while the electrician is on site. around £180–£220

Two Worked Examples

To show how the rates add up, here are two common jobs priced from the figures on this page. Your own quote will reflect your garden, but these are a fair starting point.

Ground-level timber deck

3m × 3m = 9m² of timber decking at £180

No balustrade needed at this height

From about £1,620 including VAT

Composite deck with glass and lights

4m × 3m = 12m² of composite at £210: £2,520

7m of glass balustrade on two sides at £420: £2,940

10 LED deck lights: £300

From about £5,760 including VAT

Removing an Old Deck

Taking up an existing deck starts from around £540. We use a licensed waste carrier to take it away rather than hiring a skip, which is usually the cheaper route.

What Moves a Price Up or Down

Height. Up to about a metre is generally in the square-metre rate; above that, each deck is priced on its own.

Balustrades. A raised deck usually needs one, priced per metre and depending on the style.

Access. Carrying everything through a house or up steps takes longer than a side gate and a level path.

Site logistics. Parking, slopes and how far materials travel from the van all play a part.

An old deck or fence to clear. Removal is priced separately, from around £540.

Extras. Lighting, power and screening are added at the rates above.

Where We Work

Most of our decks are within about half an hour’s drive of us in Sheffield. For larger jobs we are happy to quote up to around 45 minutes away, so if you are a little further out, it is still worth asking. We cover areas including Ecclesall, Dore, Chapeltown and Hathersage; see photos of recent decks.

Decking Price Questions

Do your prices include VAT?

Yes. Every price on this page includes VAT at 20%, so the figure you see is the figure you pay for that part of the job, before anything specific to your garden is added.

Is the frame included in the price per square metre?

Yes. The square-metre rate covers the sub-frame and the boards, supplied and fitted. Timber decking starts from £180 per square metre and composite from £210.

How much more does a raised deck cost?

Decks up to about a metre high are generally covered by the normal square-metre rate, although a raised deck usually needs a balustrade, which is priced per metre. Above a metre, we price each job individually because site logistics and access make the difference.

What guarantee comes with the materials?

Timber decking materials carry a 15 year guarantee and composite decking materials a 35 year guarantee.

Can you take away my old deck?

Yes. Taking up an existing deck starts from around £540. We use a licensed waste carrier rather than a skip, which is usually the cheaper option.

How much does a garden room cost?

An insulated 2m by 3m garden room, timber panelled inside and out, starts from about £14,400 depending on the doors. A 3m by 4m room is typically £18,000 to £21,600.

How far do you travel?

Most of our work is within about half an hour's drive of us in Sheffield. For larger jobs we are happy to quote up to around 45 minutes away.
